I've read that Samsung in Korea is a top innovator. What are they doing that's so right? And why isn't the rest of Samsung/others copying them?

Hi all,
I went shopping for HDTV plasma TVs last weekend. I knew that Panasonic and Sony make high quality TVs, but I had no idea that Samsung was coming on so strong in product quality. Some of the features were very unique in the Samsung plasma TV, and the quality was very good in my side-by-side comparison. I was surprised and would like to hear what Samsung is doing also.

Samsung has an organized and sustainable Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ, see http://www.triz-journal) effort. Several thousand of Samsung's staff, worldwide, have been trained in the TRIZ methodology and there are many who practice systematic innovation on a full-time basis. Samsung has also developed a culture that promotes and supports innovative work. They also have an established infrastructure for their innovative platform. Samsung has accomplished the four necessary requirements for the successfull deployment of a methodology: culture, infrastructure, methodology, and proficiency. This has allowed them to save over $100,000,000 using TRIZ as a problem resolution methodology (https://the-trizjournal.com/archives/2002/05/a/index.htm). They have not published how much revenue has been generated using TRIZ but I would speculate it is considerable.
