Campaign to destroy Patent Trolls and break the patent stranglehold
Editor | On 10, Sep 2018
The patent system was created to support entrepreneurs and encourage innovation – now it does the opposite stifling both innovators and new ideas. Now patent trolls are using the system to rip off manufacturing companies and large corporations are registering patents simply to restrain competition.
This is bad for new business, bad for human development and bad for our planet!
‘Break the Patent Stranglehold’ is a new campaign being launched campaign to use TRIZ techniques to publish millions of innovative ideas ensuring that patents cannot be taken out on them. No longer will unscrupulous individuals and organisations be able to use restrictive patents to slow the world’s development of ideas and innovations.
By creating ‘The Database of Ideas’ and publishing millions of innovative ideas we can ensure that ‘Prior Art’ is achieved on the innovations so that patents cannot be taken out on them. Publishing the ideas and putting them into the public domain is not for gain and ensures that anyone with the ability to develop and introduce them can do so. No longer will unscrupulous individuals and organisations be able to use restrictive patents to slow the world’s development of ideas and innovations.
Creating a patent for an innovation can be very expensive and time consuming, but publishing the idea so it cannot be patented is very cheap. The Database of Ideas – www.thedatabaseofideas.com – will be the repository of all of the ideas and innovations that we publish through the systematic use of TRIZ, the innovative problem solving tool for any industry.
Utilizing TRIZ’s evolutionary activity based on 40 Inventive Principles, each taking a product or idea forward one step at a time we will surround restrictive patents with published innovations leaving them unusable.
The Database of Ideas can then be used in three ways;
- To resist the introduction of new restrictive patents because they will be subject to prior art – ie ‘there will be evidence of that someone, somewhere, sometime previously has described or shown something that is very similar to your invention.’
- So that people being threatened by restrictive patent holders can check to see if our published ideas have superseded the patent.
- Entrepreneurs can view it for new ideas to match their skills.
The ‘Database of Ideas’ will be placed online with no access restriction and, through the ‘principles of innovation’ we will constantly add 1000’s of ideas every year across a wide range of industries.
WHO WE WILL TAKE ON – AND HOW!
We have our Top 10 Targets, starting with the Patent Trolls such as Intellectual Ventures which holds over 600 patents for purely restrictive purposes, and then moving through the industries best known for using patents for restrictive purposes including Educational Technology, Fintech, Energy, AgroChemicals, Pharmaceuticals and Information & Communications Technology.
By using TRIZ principles we will take current restrictive patents and surround them with single step innovations. By publishing these innovations in The Database of Ideas we render useless the use of the patent to restrict further development because they now have ‘Prior Art’ and are in the public domain.
To create the ‘Database of Ideas’ we need seed funding to complete the necessary software programmes, the online database and then check, upload and publish the many thousands of ideas as they are created. So we are launching a Crowdfunding Campaign to raise £48,000 to set up the whole system and publish all of the innovations we can create through the study of our first target sector the Patent Trolls.
Once we have the system and programmes in place then moving through our other target sectors will be much cheaper and require considerably less funding with the Ideas Generation Machine’ software working its way though industry after industry to open up innovation.
Have you been ripped off by Patent Trolls?
Have you had your innovation restrained by a restrictive patent?
Do you believe that innovation should be allowed to flourish for the benefit of all?
Then please help us BREAK THE PATENT STRANGLEHOLD and donate to our cause!

This seems to be a totally absurd idea, akin to throwing out the baby with the bathwater. How are the TRIZ practitioners who are creating these “millions of ideas” going to be rewarded and how can a business entity which invests millions of dollars to develop products protect themselves from competition without the protection of the patent system????
