Is DFSS the way to incorporate innovation and six sigma? Or are there lots of ways to combine them? Is DFSS just the most OFFICIAL?

Seth, Good evening!
I have never really thought of DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) as the official way to integrate innovation into Six Sigma.DFSS is a means for designing products (and processes) utilizing Six Sigma.Innovation can definitely be utilized in DFSS, as well as “regular” DMAIC Six Sigma.Best regards,QualityColorado

Hi, I'm Stefano Rossi from Italy.
In my opinion, as DFSS teacher, the point of view is really different: in a Six Sigma project you have a lot of data from the field (so you are able tu use a lot of statistical tools) in a Design For Six Sigma project you have to find some data and you have to manage a lot of “strange” information (e.g. customer's feelings): so you have to use different tools (referred sometimes as “conceptual” tools)
Cheers
Stefano

Naturally, the “I” in the DMAIC process invites many opportunities for innovation, as well. The “hows” of the measurement stage of DMAIC can also be answered by TRIZ-in setting up test beds, designing data mining software, and generally seeing what is possible to measure.
